Is the race inside park boundaries?
No. We run outside park boundaries, but there are plenty of scenic mountain views.
Why can’t we run in the park?
The National Park Service states its mission as:
The National Park Service preserves unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the national park system for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. The Park Service cooperates with partners to extend the benefits of natural and cultural resource conservation and outdoor recreation throughout this country and the world.
The preservation of the parks is their first and foremost concern, not tourism. While there are some instances where the parks have opened themselves up to a race within the actual park, approval can be fickle and unpredictable. We will continue to work with the park system and when they do open up the parks, we will be the first in line to launch a running event.
Why Half Marathons and not other distances?
Two primary reasons
1. Half marathons have experienced a surge in popularity over the past decade. It is currently the second most popular running distance in America. In short, its what most people want.
2. Running then hiking. Our races take place near national parks. It is challenging to tackle a half marathon with little or no training, where many people can run a 5k or a 10k with minimal training. However, the shorter distance(compared to a full marathon) means you can recover quickly. You can run Saturday morning and by Sunday morning many runners are up for a hike. We want to encourage our runners to make a vacation out of this event and enjoy the park.
As we continue with our race series we will explore additional distances in order to serve our runners. If we find there in interest in a marathon, we may consider adding one in addition to the half, but for now, we are focused on producing incredible half marathons.
Will there be shuttles to the starting line? Back from the finish line?
We will definitely be using shuttles, but haven’t hammered out the details yet. More to come as we get closer to race weekend!
How long do I have to finish the race? Can I walk?
Our cutoff for this race is going to be 4 hours, giving plenty of time to walkers. That is an 16 minute mile pace.
Are strollers allowed on the course?
Yes. Strollers are welcome at all of our races, so long as you’re courteous to our other runners. Please familiarize yourself with the course and make sure you would be comfortable using a stroller. Race Day Transport: We will not be able to accommodate you on the shuttles in the morning. You will need to be dropped off at the start line in the morning by 5:15am.
Do you allow for hand cyclists at this race?
Absolutely! However, we will not be able to accommodate you on the shuttles in the morning. You will need to be dropped off at the start line in the morning by 5:15am.
Are dogs allowed on the course?
Unfortunately, no. They are a liability that our insurance does not cover. Because there is no parking at this finish line, we also cannot allow them at the finish. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Where should I stay during my visit?
You can camp at our Vacation Races Campground! Otherwise, you can find hotels in or nearby our host town of East Glacier Park, MT. Learn more on our travel page.
Can we register as a team?
Absolutely you can! For details visit our “Team Registration” page.
How do I get a refund?
We have an excellent refund policy with additional options for transfer and deferment. If you do request a refund, it will take about 30 days to process before you receive your refund. Visit our “Refund Policies” page for details.
Who gets a medal?
11 and younger
75 and older
There will be finisher medals for everyone who finishes the race.
What do the medals look like?
Making beautiful and high-quality medals is one of our priorities. As soon as we have everything finalized we’ll update our blog and let runners know via email.
If I do the Club Challenge AND the Trifecta Challenge, do I get both prizes?
Nope. You’ll just get the club prize. But you WILL get major props from us for being so hardcore.
